Following his undergraduate studies in Painting and Drawing at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, Dougal McKenzie moved to Belfast where he completed his MA Fine Art in 1991. He was a Lecturer in Painting at Limerick School of Art and Design from 1996 to 2003, and currently teaches in the Painting Department at Belfast School of Art. He has twice been selected for the John Moores Liverpool Painting Prize (2004 and 2012) and in 2014 was selected for The MAC International exhibition. His major solo exhibition “A Dream and an Argument” was also held at The MAC in 2017, and in 2024 he was shortlisted for The Contemporary British Painting Prize. Since 1995 he has exhibited internationally in the United States, Iceland, Poland, Slovenia, South Korea, London and Dublin, presenting two solo shows with the third space gallery in Belfast, including “Dunkelbunt” in 2009. He has also exhibited at The Royal Hibernian Academy and Royal Ulster Academy Annual Exhibitions as an invited artist. His forthcoming exhibition “Painters’ Table”, with Henry Ward, takes place at Arcade, Belfast in October 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
